It has been great connecting with our students and seeing them at lunches and in their classrooms. We're working a variety of skills that a necessary for all students and are individualized for specific needs. Check out some of the things we have been working on, below! In a small group with Mrs. Humphries and Mrs. Sponhouse, students created self-portraits on eggs to demonstrate the need to be careful with ourselves! In 4th grade, students created posters to share what they learned about the definition of bullying and what to do if they see bullying.
Here are some questions you can ask your learner to start the afterschool conversation!

As you are preparing for the start of the school year, here are some tips for a smooth start! Establish a Routine: The school year comes with new demands on your schedule, and we know that children do best with a schedule and routine. Here are some tips to get ready:
Communicate with School: If your child or you have a concern or question, don’t hesitate to contact the classroom teacher or any of us at Quarryville Elementary! Classroom counseling in January will be a mix of making up lessons that were rescheduled due to snow in December and presenting new lessons for January.
The following are the lessons/topics we will be covering during classroom lessons in January: Kindergarten – In kindergarten, we will be discussing feelings. Being able to identify feelings is the first step to being able to cope with difficult feelings. Grade 1– In first grade, we will be talking about making mistakes. We will review that everyone makes mistakes, sometimes, and we will talk about what you can do when you make a mistake. Grade 2 – In 2nd grade, some classes will be finishing up lessons on upstanders from December. All classes will have a lesson on self-control and how you can demonstrate self-control to help yourself and others. Grade 3 - In 3rd grade, will be making up our lesson on conflict resolution from December. Students will focus on identifying the size of the problem and possible solutions to conflicts. Grade 4 – Our 4th grade classes will be making up lessons on upstanders from December. All 4th graders will also participate in a lesson on teamwork. This is a particularly difficult skill to practice in our current times. We'll talk about the important aspects of teamwork and play a story building game, as a class. |
